A million plays and not a single musician: the story of Velvet Sundown
Velvet Sundown gained huge attention online when their songs garnered over a million plays on Spotify. However, it soon became clear that the band did not even exist and had been created entirely by artificial intelligence.
Context
At first, Velvet Sundown presented itself as a real band made up of real people, but it eventually became clear that the band's music was generated using the AI music creation tool Suno, and the creators themselves described their project as "Not quite human. Not quite machine." This case opened Pandora's box and raised questions in the music industry about the transparency and authenticity of works and the right of consumers to know what they are actually listening to.
Currently, platforms such as Spotify are not required to indicate whether a piece of music was created using artificial intelligence, although some competitors, such as Deezer, have already started labeling AI-generated tracks. The situation is causing concern among the music community, especially since AI models can be trained using real artists' works without their consent or compensation. Unsurprisingly, groups are increasingly calling for mandatory labeling, stronger copyright protection, and systems that protect people's creations from anonymous algorithms.
What does this mean?
Without stricter regulations, AI could repeat the familiar scenario where technology and platforms reap the profits while real artists are left behind. The story of Velvet Sundown showed that even "fake" bands can receive enormous attention, which raises questions: if artificial creations become hits, but we don't know about it, where else is AI operating without our knowledge?

Meta tightens rules: Meta has tightened Facebook's rules on unoriginal content, especially when it is used to artificially generate engagement or monetization. Now, accounts that consistently copy other people's content without adding value may lose reach or the ability to earn revenue, with priority given to authentic and original content.
Cyber security is improving: Google has unveiled its latest artificial intelligence solutions in the field of cyber security, including advanced agents capable of detecting vulnerabilities before they appear. In collaboration with public and private sector partners, these tools are already being used to strengthen the security of not only Google products, but the entire internet.
Claude + Canva: Claude AI now integrates with Canva, allowing you to create and edit designs directly in the chat window – just describe what you need. Users no longer need to jump between different windows. The service only works with paid Claude and Canva accounts.
AI comes to Hollywood! Runway has unveiled Act-Two, a new generation AI model that creates a fully animated character from a single video, with accurately reproduced facial, body, and hand movements. All it takes is a single photo, and the system preserves the original background and artistic style. Despite criticism, this is a step towards deeper AI integration in Hollywood.
AI in practice: 5 unusual but ingenious ways to use ChatGPT
Summer is in full swing, so it's natural that our thoughts often stray from work, everyday life, or vacations. To take a break from intensive AI use, let's look at other ways ChatGPT can be used - less talked about ways that can help ease the routine.
Step #1: Planning food expenses and cooking
Upload this week's discounts for products from your favorite supermarket to ChatGPT and ask it to create a weekly recipe menu using these specific products. You can upload photos of publications, screenshots, or simply the entire PDF publication.
This way, not only will you eat a variety of foods and discover new recipes every week, but you'll also save money.
You can also choose the opposite method, upload recipes, and ask for a shopping list based on them. You can even specify which ingredients you already have at home. You won't have to worry about what else you need to buy or write everything down on a piece of paper.
In addition, if you are throwing a party for 20 people, ask for a menu of appetizers and main courses, as well as a list of ingredients. If there are vegetarians or vegans in the group, ChatGPT can take that into account as well.
If you find a recipe online for 4 people but need portions for 20, ask for the recipe quantities to be adjusted and changed accordingly.
Step #2: Traveling
It's no secret that AI tools are useful for planning trips, but have you ever thought that you could personalize your search even further by asking for routes suitable for people in wheelchairs, with small children, or with a larger group of friends? This way, you won't have to pick and choose from a long list of activities to find the ones that are right for your situation.
Plus, if you're traveling abroad by car, you can upload unfamiliar road signs to ChatGPT and ask what they mean.
Have you seen a strange plant or bird and are interested in finding out its name? Just upload a photo of the plant, animal, or city monument and find out more information.
Step #3: Creating Midjourney prompts
Submitting a query to Midjourney can sometimes be tricky, but ChatGPT can help with that too. Upload a sample image to ChatGPT and ask it to generate a query for Midjourney based on that image. Then, if necessary, edit and change the query and use it in Midjourney.
By the way, with the help of AI, you can create a personalized background for your online meetings. You can change the environment of your "room" every day or write your company name in the background.
Step #4: Taking care of your garden
So, you've finally decided to start planting tomatoes, flowers, or something else in your garden, but you're not sure how or when to do it? ChatGPT can help.
Ask anything you want to know—when is the best time to plant specific seeds, what temperature is needed, when should they sprout, how to care for them... You can upload a photo of the seed packet to make it easier. Don't forget to include details about your country or climate.
Also, if you have a seed mix for your garden, you can take a photo of the seeds and ask ChatGPT to identify the different flowers based on their seeds!
Step #5: Relax
ChatGPT can create a guided meditation for you. If you feel exhausted, briefly write down how you feel, what kind of break you need (e.g., 10 minutes lying in bed, 5 minutes of silence in the relaxation room), what you want to achieve after the break, and how you want to feel. Also include images that you like (e.g., forest, beach).
Submit all of this as a query to ChatGPT, and it will generate an accurate, personalized meditation in a matter of seconds. Listen to this meditation in ChatGPT itself using Voice mode, or if you want different voices, upload it to other AI tools that can read the text aloud to you.
If you practice yoga, you can ask the tool to create a yoga routine for you.
Also, if you have hundreds of thoughts buzzing around in your head, you can pour them out to ChatGPT. Ask it to respond only with "ok" until you say "end," and then to structure your thoughts into clearer frameworks, help you create an action or relaxation plan, or whatever else you want at that moment.
So, once you get used to the standard ways of using AI for work, it's sometimes fun to step back and remember or learn where else you can use ChatGPT in your daily life :)
